low density lipoprotein receptor-related protein (LRP-1)

is a protein that rapidly shuttles beta amyloid out of the brain and across the blood-brain barrier to the body, where it breaks down into harmless waste products. Mouse studies have revealed that a decrease in LRP-1 is normal with aging.
